Location

Unicoi State Park & Lodge
The L2L Valentine’s Getaway weekend has taken place at the Unicoi State Park & Lodge since 1988!
Unicoi State Park & Lodge is centered around beautiful Lake Unicoi within the Chattahoochee National Forest. It is located just two miles northeast of Alpine Helen in the gorgeous North Georgia Mountains.
The park surrounding the lodge offers unparalleled hiking trails leading to Anna Ruby Falls and Helen. Smith Creek, a peaceful tributary of the Chattahoochee River, winds from the base of the Anna Ruby falls to Unicoi Lake.

Alpine Helen
Downtown Helen is a bustling alpine village set against a scenic backdrop of mountains, forests and river banks, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to the cobblestone streets of Germany’s famed Bamberg or Lindau as colorful shops dot the landscape and the heavenly aroma of authentic German fare takes to the breeze.
Many couples choose to spend the afternoon in Helen on Friday before their arrival or on Sunday after our Getaway Weekend concluded. Some even stay an extra day to enjoy all that Helen and the surrounding mountains have to offer.

History of the Weekend
In the words of one of the weekend's founders, Dave Hill: “Judi (Hill) used to host wives/friends at our home for many events. One evening in late 1986 the wives were meeting and discussing how busy life is (was). They came up with the idea of capturing their husbands and taking them off for a weekend in the North Georgia Mountains for a weekend without kids. They thought Valentine’s weekend would be good and then began a search for a location. Unicoi was the choice because of the price and location (very cheap back in the 80’s with the state park food and lodging rates). No dates were available in 1987 so we picked Valentine’s weekend 1988. We were assigned a meeting room in the main lodge the first year, and it was not very private with much noise in the meeting rooms next to us. The weekend was attended by 17 couples with a threefold purpose: refreshment, discovery, and commitment. The first purpose was accomplished by just being away with your mate for some extended time alone with each other along with fellowship with other like-minded couples. The second purpose came about as you listened to those teaching and sharing. Commitment came at the end of our time together where a challenge was made reflecting on what the Lord was saying to you throughout the weekend. We had several conversion testimonies along with three couples teaching. The teaching was mostly sharing from what they were learning about many subjects (communication, forgiveness, keeping biblically aligned in your relationships, time commitments, and many others). All three couples sharing were in the same stages of life regarding ages of children and activities. At the conclusion we gave a challenge for the following year: simply "each one bring one." We wanted to occupy the “D lodge” so we could have the meeting room and kitchen to ourselves. That is how it all came about.”

About L2L
More about the organization hosting the weekend: L2L is a non-profit, Atlanta-based network of men and women who volunteer their time to help other individuals deal with life’s challenges. Whether it’s in the area of career, money, relationships, marriage, parenting or health, life throws us curve balls. In the midst of these challenges, it is valuable to have authentic relationships with others. Our approach is “Life2Life” – one person helping another. This process leads to deep friendships and a growing community of people who are "doing life" together. Many of us experience the pain of personal failure, broken families, discarded dreams or empty lives. Perhaps you fall into one of these categories? We recognize that many struggle to find answers no matter where they look, whether it’s friends, family, self-help books, or even church. It is to these individuals that God has called the men and women of L2L to serve. It doesn’t matter if you are a believer, a seeker, a skeptic, or simply a person with more questions than answers. All are welcome at L2L. We are a faith-based organization that exists solely because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are not affiliated with any particular church or denomination. We are simply a collection of men and women whose hearts and lives have been touched by God in a personal way, and we long to share this grace by meeting other individuals one-on-one, wherever they are, Life2Life. For over 40 years, L2L, Life2Life, has served men and women in the Atlanta area who are struggling to find purpose or greater balance in their professional, family and spiritual lives.
Join a weekend that has been going strong for more than 30 years!
The L2L Valentine’s Getaway is attended by newlyweds all the way to couples who have been married for 50 years or more. This is your opportunity to hear from couples in the same stage as you along with couples who are ahead of you in their marriages and in life.
